History, Reason, and Guide to Using Anointing Oil
In the article, How to use Anointing Oil: A Step-by-Step Guide, published by the Israel Store, Anointing Oil is explained as an ancient sacred tool deeply rooted in the ways of God that is both a biblical tradition and a spiritual practice. Its first appearance in the Bible occurred in Exodus 30:22-25, where God gave Moses explicit directions on the quality (best spices), the quantity of each spice, and where to use it. God stated in the Old Testament that it was to be “holy anointing oil,” where there are strict scriptural warnings about using this specific recipe for personal use (Exodus 30:31-33). This article explains that “For thousands of years, anointing oil has been used to set people and objects apart as holy, to heal, to protect, and to usher in the presence of God.”
What does the New Testament say about Anointing Oil? In Mark 6:13, “ . . . they were anointing with oil many sick people and healing them.” And in James 5:14-16 “ . . anointing with oil in the Name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will heal the one who is sick. “ As Pastor Jim shares, “while anointing oil is not magical, it represents God’s presence, power, and blessing. The very act of anointing symbolizes sanctification, divine protection, and guidance.”
Today, as king and priest in Christ (see Revelation 1:6), we are a royal priesthood (see 1 Peter 2:9), releasing us as Christians to pray over oils, set them apart for spiritual use, and sanctify them in the Name of Jesus to be used as holy anointing oil.
It is also important to declare scriptures and prayers when anointing with oil over various uses, as listed below:
· Healing and prayer: It is used during prayer for healing as described in the Bible (e.g., James 5:14)..

· Consecration: Oil can be used to dedicate people, homes, or objects to God. This involves anointing a person, a home's doorways and windows, or even personal items to set them apart for a holy purpose.

· Spiritual protection: It is used to declare God's protection over a person or space, asking God to sanctify the area, as a means of spiritual warfare, and deliverance prayers.

· Worship and prayer: The ritual use of anointing oil changes the atmosphere, inviting the presence of the Holy Spirit during worship or personal prayer time.

· Symbolism of the Holy Spirit: The act of anointing with oil is seen as a physical representation of the Holy Spirit being placed upon a person.

These are all very Biblical ways as kings and priests of the One True God where the anointing oil can be utilized; however, as Pastor Jim shares, “ . . . the oil itself does not heal, God does!”
One can make their own anointing oil, or there are several places where it can be purchased.
